Sixth Form

The Sixth Form (Key Stage 5 provision) is located at the school’s Hollow Lane site. It is a provision for young people between the ages of 16-19. Students may access the Sixth Form for one, two or three years depending on their personalised pathway and Transition plans. The transition process is embedded throughout the students’ programmes, and families and carers will receive support during their time in the department specific to this. Students will also be supported with Careers Education and Guidance.

The Sixth Form curriculum is linked to the Department for Education “Preparing for Adulthood” framework and is personalised according to each student’s individualised needs, EHCP outcomes, interests and future aspirations.

For some students this may include accredited courses, (Entry Level Functional Skills English, Maths, ICT), Work Experience, Vocational learning and a focus on Independent Living Skills. These students will follow a subject specific pathway.

Students with more complex needs may follow an Engagement Pathway where personalised programmes may have a stronger emphasis on communication, sensory processing and therapies.

Enrichment activities such as Duke of Edinburgh Awards, Outdoor Education opportunities and access to the Jubilee Challenge are also available.

At Ellen Tinkham Sixth Form, there is also an emphasis on developing self esteem, confidence, resilience and personal safety skills which are crucial to young people as they prepare for their transition into Adulthood.

We are committed to ensuring that our students progress in their confidence as communicators and that they are at the centre of all choice and decision making.

In Sixth Form, everyone is actively included and treated with mutual respect. Every student in Sixth Form has their views and choices respected. It is our aim to provide our young people with learning experiences which are challenging, relevant and purposeful in order to provide them with the skills and experiences to leave school well prepared for their transition to a fulfilling and meaningful life.

Everyone will be the best they can be; Everyone has a voice; No-one is excluded.
